
Barishal Textile Engineering College students announced an indefinite shutdown of the institution to press for their eight-point charter of demands.
They announced the shutdown and locked the administrative building of the college campus on Sunday afternoon.
BTEC students said that the shutdown programme would continue if the demands are not met.
Their eight-point demand includes permanent solution to teacher crisis, modernisation of labs and classrooms and recruitment of adequate manpower, increase in allocation for the college, publishing of examination results with mark sheets within three months.
They also demanded reduction of semester and retake fees, accommodation for all students, completing each semester within six months and improvement examination system.
They alleged that Barishal Textile Engineering College had been victim of different discriminations since its inception.
Students say they would continue the shutdown programme until their demands are met.
College principal Abdul Quader Bepari said that discussions were held with higher authorities in this connection.
He said that the reasonable demands certainly be accepted.
