The schedule for the elections to the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union is likely to be announced on July 29, with voting expected in the second week of September.

The decision was made at a final meeting on the election schedule held at the university’s Senate Building, in presence of stakeholders involved in the polls, on Sunday.

Chief Election Commissioner for the DUCSU polls Jasim Uddin confirmed the development.

He said, ‘This is the only official date. We expect the election to be held within 40–45 days after the announcement of the schedule. We are committed to conduct the election within that timeframe.’

The meeting also decided that polling would take place at six ‘neutral’ polling stations.

The selected polling stations are Curzon Hall (Exam Hall) for students of Dr Muhammad Shahidullah Hall, Amar Ekushey Hall and Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall; Physical Education Centre for Jagannath Hall, Shaheed Sergeant  Zahurul  Huq Hall and Salimullah Muslim Hall; TSC Centre for Rokeya Hall, Shamsun Nahar Hall and Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall and DU Club for Bangladesh‑Kuwait Maitree Hall; Bangladesh‑Kuwait Maitree Hall, and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall, Senate Building (Alumni Floor, Seminar Room, Dining Room) for Sir AF Rahman Hall, Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall, and Bijoy Ekattor Hall; and Udayan School and College Centre for Surja Sen Hall, Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, and Kabi Jasimuddin Hall.

The meeting was attended by student leaders, hall provosts, deans, and university administrators.

It was further stated that students of the 2018–19 academic session who already received their master’s results would not be eligible to vote or contest in the upcoming DUCSU or hall union elections.

The last elections to the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union were held in March 2019 after a long gap of 28 years.

The tenure of that DUCSU ended in March 2020. Since then, elections have been on hold for four years.
