
Four front organisations of the Awami League, including banned student body Bangladesh Chhatra League called countrywide dawn to dusk general strike for today protesting at ‘Gopalganj mass killing’, and demanding the cancellation of ‘illegal tribunal’ and ouster of ‘fascist Yunus government’.
The information was revealed in a joint statement of the banned Chhatra League, the Bangladesh Awami Juba League, the Bangladesh Awami Swechasebak League and the Jatiya Sramik League shared on verified Facebook page of the Bangladesh Awami League on Saturday.
On May 12, the interim government banned all activities of the Awami League and its affiliated, allied and like-minded organisations until the completion of the trials of the party and its leaders by the International Crimes Tribunal.
On Wednesday, a clash between the members of security forces and Awami League and its front bodies leaders and activists killed five people and injured more than 50 centring the National Citizen Party rally.
The clash erupted as the AL activists attacked on the NCP leaders’ motorcade following their rally in Gopalganj town.Â
Awami League president and then prime Sheikh Hasina fled to India on August 5, 2024 in the face of the student-led mass uprising.
