Leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Saturday morning started gathering at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka to attend their pre-announced national rally to press home their seven-point demand, including assurance for a level playing field and a proportionate representation system in the general election.
The first session of the rally formally began by a cultural programme at about 10:00am.
Hundreds of leaders and activists of the party from across the country began gathering at the venue on early Saturday.
The crowd is increasing gradually as huge number of the party leaders and activists in groups are joining the rally with processions from across the country from the morning.
The party鈥檚 other demands also include trial for all massacres during the ousted Awami League regime, ensuring fundamental reforms, implementation of the July Charter and Declaration, rehabilitation of the injured and families of the martyred ones during the July uprising and provision to exercise voting rights for expatriates.
The rally will formally start at 2:00pm. Jamaat ameer Shafiqur Rahman will chair the rally.
Leaders of different like-minded political parties will join the main session of the rally, according to the party鈥檚 publicity department.
Bangladesh Supreme Court cancelled the registration of Jamaat in 2013 and ousted Awami League government banned the party in 2024. The cancellation of the registration and the ban were lifted after the July mass uprising period.
