Leaders of Sramik Karmachari Oiky Parishad, a combine of 14 labour rights bodies, at a protest rally called on the interim government to refrain from leasing out Chattogram Port to foreign companies.

SKOP organised the rally presided over by its joint convener Chowdhury Ashiqul Alam in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka on Tuesday.


Ashiqul Alam said that the interim government headed by Professor Muhammad Yunus was hatching conspiracy to lease out New Mooring Port of Chattorgam to a foreign company, which would not be acceptable.

He called on the interim government to refrain from leasing out the port to the foreign company.

Nurullah Bahar, a leader of Chattogrm Port workers, said that they would resist any attempt of leasing out port to any foreign company.

SKOP central leader Razequzzaman Ratan readout the declaration of the rally where he called on all the labour rights organisations to wage a united movement to resist any attempt to lease out the port to any foreign company.

Labour leaders Abdul Kader Hawlader, Mahbubul Alam, Saifuzzaman Badsha, Badal Khan, Khalequzzaman Lipon and others spoke at the rally.

The rally was followed by a protest procession that paraded different city roads.
