
Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh seized smuggled goods worth approximately Tk 136.9 crore across the country in June, said a press release of the elite force on Monday.
The seized contraband includes 4.338kg gold, 13,372 pieces saris, 3,500 three-piece/shirt piece/bedcover/blanket, 548 ready-made garments, 2,147 metres fabric roll, 2,25,096 cosmetics items, 4,578 imitation jewellery, 6,64,508 fireworks, 6,345 cubic feet wood, 4,903kg tea leaves, 31,974kg betel nut, 17,769kg fertiliser, 10,540kg coal, 19,204kg of yarn/current net, 1,328 mobile phones, 1,850 mobile covers, 37,541 mobile displays, 15,519 glasses, 2,182kg various fruits, 5,844kg edible oil, 1,000 litres diesel, 3,182kg cumin, 1,336 packets various types of seeds, 7,492 pieces shrimp fry, 1,150kg coffee, 5,47,246 pieces chocolate, 777 cows/buffaloes, one stone statue, three buses, 10 trucks/covered vans, three pickups/Mahendras, seven private cars/microbuses, 138 boats, 27 CNG-run auto-rickshaws/easy-bikes, 64 motorcycles and 39 bicycles.
The BGB also seized two locally-made pistols, one foreign pistol, two domestic single-barrel guns, three shotguns, three mortar shells, 19 bullets and four hand grenades.
The paramilitary force also arrested 197 smugglers during the period. The force also held 155 Bangladeshi citizens and 7 Indian citizens for illegally crossing the border.
In addition, 335 Myanmar citizens have been sent back to their country while trying to enter Bangladesh.
