
Bangladesh have officially recognised electronic sports (e-sports) as a sport, the ministry of youth and sports announced on Monday.
The announcement was made under sections 2(2) and 6 of the National Sports Council Act-2018, confirmed in a letter signed by senior assistant secretary Faisal Raihan.
The ministry also formed a four-member committee to draft policies and governance structures.
The committee will be headed by additional secretary Md Saiful Islam, including a joint secretary from the ICT Division, a Dhaka University professor from the Institute of Information Technology, and the National Sports Council鈥檚 sports director, who will serve as member secretary.
The panel has 21 working days to submit its report.
It will consult stakeholders and align with the International Olympic Committee guidelines, ICT department and laws and government regulations.
