Stock markets on Sunday finished the session of the week flat amid heightened intraday volatility as investors opted to lock in short-term gains from recently appreciated stocks while taking renewed positions on selected small-cap and blue-chip scrips.

DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, inched down by 1.6 points or -0.03 per cent to settle at 5,066 points as against 5,068 points in the previous trading session.


Market turnover slightly declined today by -1.9 per cent to Taka 6.7 billion as against Tk 6.8 billion in the previous session.

On the sectoral front, Bank (16.2 per cent) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Pharma (11.8 per cent) and Textile (11.2 per cent) sectors.

Sectors showed mixed results, out of which Jute (3.8 per cent), Tannery (2.3 per cent) and Ceramic (1.5 per cent) exhibited the most positive returns while Travel (-1.5 per cent), Life Insurance (-1.0 per cent) and Bank (-0.9 per cent) showed the most negative returns on the bourse today.

Out of the 397 issues traded, 174 advanced, 166 declined and 57 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, however, experienced a positive session today. The Selective Categories’ Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) advanced by 24.3 and 47.4 points, respectively.
