A real estate business office was attacked allegedly over extortion at Pallabi in the capital on Friday, leaving one of its employees injured.
No case was filed and none was arrested in the incident as of 9:30pm on Saturday, according to the police.
The incident emerged amid nationwide outrage and protests over the brutal killing of a scrap metal trader near Mitford Hospital in the capital for allegedly refusing to pay extortion money.
Some unidentified miscreants attacked the office of AK Builders, located in the Alubdi Tek area of Pallabi, and opened fire at about 6:00pm on Friday, said Shafiul Islam, officer-in-charge of Pallabi police station.
‘One person was shot in the firing. He is now undergoing treatment at Kurmitola General Hospital,’ OC Shafiul said.
The filing of a case over the shooting incident was under process, he said, adding that no one has been arrested so far in this connection.
‘An investigation is underway and drives are being conducted to arrest those involved,’ added the police official.
A person allegedly demanded Tk 5 crore to the firm’s chairman Kaiyum Ali Khan three weeks ago and, as they refused to pay, the attackers raided the office twice and snatched several items, including CCTV equipment.
