
The Indian Border Security Force on Saturday shot two Bangladesh nationals along separate bordering areas in Sunamganj and Thakurgaon.
The border killing victims are Shafiqul Islam, 45, a resident of Lakshipur union under Doarabazar upazila, and Askar Ali, better known as Rasel, 24, of village Jibonpur under Haripur upazila in Thakurgaon district.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· staff correspondent in Sylhet, quoting locals and police officials, reported that BSF members opened fire targeting a group of people who entered Indian territory through the Baganbari border under Dowarabazar upazila in Sunamganj at about 1:30am when Shafiqul became critically injured.
Doarabazar police station officer-in-charge Zahidul Haque said that Shafiqul received a bullet hit in his chest and his companions rushed him to Doarabazar upazila health complex where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Border Guard Bangladesh 28 Battalion commanding officer Zakaria Kadir said that they had sent a protest letter to the BSF in this connection.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Thakurgaon, referring to locals and the officials of law enforcement agencies, reported that Askar and several others crossed the zero line through the Minapur border in Thakurgaon at about 4:00am when BSF personnel opened fire on them near the barbed-wire fence on the Indian side.
Rasel was hit by a bullet and died on the spot.
Following the incident, BSF personnel took his body away.
BGB Battalion-42 in Dinajpur commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al-Moin Hasan said that they were informed about the incident by the locals.
‘A flag meeting has been proposed at the company commander level between the BGB and the BSF,’ he said.
