
Labour leaders on Friday at a shop workers convention in Dhaka city said that most of the shop employees were deprived of their just rights.
Organised by the National Shop Employees Federation at the auditorium of Asia Hotel on Topkhana Road, the convention was chaired by federation president Rafiqul Islam Babul.
Labour leader Syed Sultan Uddin Ahmed at the convention said that the country鈥檚 labour law fell short of addressing the rights of the workers engaged in different sectors.
He also called on the shop employees to continue their movements for establishing legal rights including increasing the wages.
Anwar Hossain president of Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, an associate body of Bangladesh Nationalist Party, said that their organisation would extend support to the movement of shop employees to realise their demands.
Labour leader and general secretary of the organisation Amirul Haque Amin said that about one crore shop employees across the country were reprieved from appointment letters, weekly holiday and festival allowances.
The convention was attended by 82 workers delegates, Amirul Haque Amin said.
Labour leaders KM Nasim, Amjad Ali Khan, Mostafa Kamal, among others, addressed the event.
