The second day of the three-day bilateral tariff discussions between Bangladesh and the United States has concluded, focusing on the current dynamics and future direction of trade relations between the two nations, according to a press release issued Friday morning (Bangladesh time).

At the second day of talks, both sides reached a preliminary consensus on several issues, although a few key matters remain unresolved.

The press release, issued by the Chief Adviser鈥檚 press wing, stated that a notable highlight of the second day was a one-on-one meeting between commerce adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin and US trade representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer, a senior figure and ministerial-level official under the Trump administration.

The meeting took place in a cordial and constructive atmosphere, addressing tariff concerns as well as the broader trade and strategic interests of both countries.

During the discussions, the Bangladeshi delegation emphasised the country鈥檚 economic progress and trade potential.

The commerce adviser reiterated Bangladesh鈥檚 commitment to increasing imports from the US alongside its exports, reflecting a balanced and cooperative trade approach already in motion.

Bangladesh also called for fair and equitable tariff treatment, stressing the importance of maintaining a competitive trade environment that benefits both sides.

In response, Ambassador Greer assured continued cooperation and support from the United States, according to the press release.

The Bangladesh delegation was led by commerce adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin. National Security Adviser Khililur Rahman joined the talks virtually from Dhaka.

Commerce secretary Mahbubur Rahman and additional secretary Nazneen Kauser Chowdhury joined the talks in person in Washington, while several senior government officials and experts also participated virtually.

The press release also stated that the third and final day of discussions is scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM (Washington time) on Friday.

The first day of the second round of talks on Wednesday was very comprehensive, touching upon almost all the key aspects of the trade relationships between the two nations, according to a release issued by the chief adviser鈥檚 press wing early Thursday.
