Leaders of the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council at a press conference in Dhaka on Thursday expressed concern over not forming a commission by the interim government to investigate the incidents happened on the religious minorities in the country after August 5.

The BHBCUC organised the press conference at the National Press Club.

Acting general secretary of the council Monindra Kumar Nath expressed dissatisfaction over not forming a commission by the interim government to investigate the incidents happened on the religious and national minorities of the country after the fall of fascist Awami League government on August 5 in the past year.

Monindra Kumar alleged that 2,442 incidents happened on religious and national minorities across the country in the past 330 days.

‘The incidents included killings, repressions on women, demolishing Hindu temples, capturing houses and business centres and attacks on the national minorities,’ Monindra added.

President of the BHBCUC, Nirmal Rozario, mentioned that it was frustrating that the interim had not yet formed a commission on minority issues.

Another president of the organisation, Neem Chandra Bhowmik, demanded holding trials of incidents on the religious and national minorities and punishments of the responsible.

Central leaders of the organisation Kazal Debnath, JL Bhowmik, and minority leaders Dipankar Ghosh and Palash Kanti Dey, among others, attended the press conference.
