A minor girl was killed allegedly after rape by unidentified assailants in a village under Sarail upazila in Brahmanbaria at the night following Saturday.

The police recovered the body of the nine-year-old victim, daughter of an expatriate, from the roof of a mosque in the village Sunday morning.

Sarail police station officer-in-charge Morshedul Alam said that the girl went missing Saturday evening while she was on her way home from her madrassah.

Some children went to the mosque to learn Arabic and saw her body on the roof and locals informed the police about the matter, he said.

He said that they recovered the body from the spot and found injury marks on several parts of her body.

‘We suspect that she was killed after rape,’ he said.

The victim’s mother filed a case with Sarail police station on Monday alleging that unidentified assailants had killed her daughter after rape, Brahmanbaria assistant superintendent of police for Sarail circle Tapan Sarker said.

He said that they arrested the mosque’s imam Hamidur Rahman, 40 and muezzin Saidul Islam, 21, for their suspected involvement in the incident.

‘During primary interrogation, they denied involvement. But we cannot say that they are innocent as the keys of the mosque were under their possession,’ he said.

He said that the police produced the duo before a district court which sent them to jail.
