The cultural affairs ministry on Monday formed a 19-member committee to bring about quality changes and reforms in Bangla Academy, an autonomous institution under the ministry.聽

Former civil servant and adjunct professor of Independent University Bangladesh Faizul Latif Chowdhury has been nominated as president and the Bangla Academy director general Mohammad Azam as member secretary of the committee to be tasked with preparing a proposal for qualitative changes and reforms of the academy within three month, according to a press release.


The committee would have in its purview the Bangla Academy Act, regulations, formation and activities to propose its reform, said the cultural affairs ministry release.

The committee members include poet Abdul Hai Shikdar, writer Salimullah Khan, Professor Sumon Rahman, director general at Press Institute Bangladesh Faruk Wasif, poet Bratya Raisu, poet Mohammad Romel, managing director and chief editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha Mahbub Morshed, executive director of Kabi Nazrul Institute Latiful Islam Shibli, director of the National Book Centre and writer Afsana Begum, Rajshahi University professor A Al Mamun, poet Shakhawat Tipu, writer Rifat

Hasan, writer Ehsan Mahmud, poet Kazi Jesin, writer Ahmad Mostofa Kamal, writer Javed Hussain and researcher Sahul Ahmed Munna.

The committee can co-opt members if it is necessary, according to the release.
