
Bangladesh interim government social welfare adviser Sharmeen S Murshid on Sunday said the nation will long remember the children and women martyred during the student-led July mass uprising in 2024 that forced theÌýousterÌýof the authoritarian regime of SheikhÌýHasina.
She made the remarks following visits to homes of July martyred Riya Gop, a child who was shot dead in Nayamati and Sumaiya, a housewife killed in the Mizmiji area of Siddhirganj in Narayanganj city.
‘We won’t let the memory of the women and children martyred in the July uprising fade away,’ said Sharmeen , also the women and children affairs adviser.
‘Their stories will be compiled and preserved. They will not be forgotten,’ she added.
She further said the state will ensure the rights of those martyred in the uprising, noting that deputy commissioner Zahidul Islam Miah is already working toward that end.
‘I have spoken to the families to understand their struggles and challenges. As part of the Ministry of Social Welfare, I will do everything within my power to support them,’ she said.
Several senior officials, including the deputy commissioner of Narayanganj, were present during the visit.
