A leader of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, was killed and at least 15 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups over establishing supremacy at Nasirnagar in Brahmanbaria on Saturday.

The deceased, Sohrab Mia, 28, was a resident of Kathalkandi village and joint secretary of JCD’s Chhatlapar union unit.


Assistant superintendent of police Tapan Sarkar of the Sarail circle said that there had been tensions between the rival groups for several months over establishing dominance in the area, which ultimately led to Saturday’s fatal clash.

People of the area said that the clash broke out at Chhatlapar Bazar under Chhatlapar union between the two groups known as ‘Ulla Faction’ and ‘Molla Faction’ from Kathalkandi village of Chhatlapar union.

The clash continued for about an hour and injured Sohrab critically. He died on the way to hospital, said the police.

Additional police have been deployed in the area to avoid further untoward incidents. Legal steps are underway in connection with the incident, the ASP added.
