
India pushed 31 more people into Bangladesh through four border points in Thakurgaon, Panchagrah and Moulvibazar districts on Saturday.
With the latest push-ins, the number of people, including Rohingyas and Indian nationals, pushed into Bangladesh by the BSF since May 7 has increased to 1,829.
On Saturday, the Indian BSF pushed six people into Bangladesh through the Boirchuna border under Pirganj upazila in Thakurgaon, according to Border Guard Bangladesh officials.
BGB-42 Battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al Moin Hasan said that a BGB patrol team detained the six people, pushed into Bangladesh, at about 4:20am on Saturday.
‘We have handed them over to Pirganj police station as they claimed to be the inhabitants of Narail district,’ he added.
They went to India about two months ago for work and Mumbai police arrested them eight or 10 days ago. They were brought near the Bangladesh border on Friday, said the BGB official quoting victims. Â
Pirganj police station sub-inspector Md Abdul Halim Khan said that they were verifying their identities to hand them over to their families.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Panchagrah reported that the BSF pushed 15 people, including five women and five children, through the Khuniapara and Amarkhana border points under the sadar upazila early Saturday.
Panchagrah sadar police station officer-in-charge Abdullahil Zaman said that the BGB handed over 15 people to them.
‘Of them, 10 were pushed through the Khuniapara border point and five were pushed through the Amarkhana border point. We came to know that they were residents of Khulna, Bagerhat and Narail districts,’ the OC added.
The Indian BSF pushed 10 more people into Bangladesh through a border point under Barlekha upazila in Moulvibazar early Saturday, ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· Staff Correspondent in Sylhet reported.
BGB’s 52 Battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Ariful Haque Chowdhury said that the 10 people, who were pushed into Bangladesh territory, included seven men and three women.
He said that the BSF pushed 10 individuals through the Batamoral border point under Barlekha upazila.
‘The BGB personnel of New Pallathal border outpost, however, detained them from the area at around 4:30am, immediately after they were pushed into the Bangladesh territory,’ he said.
Quoting the detainees, he said that they went to India from Satkhira, Khulna and Barishal districts within the last six months in search of jobs.
‘The BSF picked them up recently from different parts of India and then pushed them into Bangladesh,’ the BGB officer said.
Barlekha police station officer-in-charge Abul Kasem Sarker said that the BGB handed the detainees over to the police station at about 5:00pm.
