
At least three people were killed and 11 injured in three separate road crashes in Sylhet, Magura, and Dinajpur districts on Saturday.
Two of the dead were transport workers.
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that a transport worker was killed and 11 were injured when two buses collided on the Dhaka-Sylhet national highway in Kurabazar area in Osmani Nagar upazila.
Deceased Raju, 26, hailed from Nagardia village of Nagarkanda upazila of Faridpur district.
When the ‘Ena Paribahan’ and ‘Unique Paribahan’ buses collided head-on, the Unique Paribahan bus driver’s assistant Razu died on the spot.
Highway Police’s Sylhet control room confirmed the incident.
Eleven people, including the drivers of the two buses, were injured in the incident.
BSS also reported that a truck driver was killed in a head-on collision between a rice-laden truck and a bus on the Magura-Dhaka highway around 12:00am at Belnagar.
The deceased was identified as Biplob Hossain, 35, son of Amir Ali, who hailed from Badpukuria village in Jhenaidah district.
According to police personnel, the accident occurred when the Rajbari-bound truck collided head-on with the Satkhira Line bus coming from Dhaka, leaving Biplob seriously injured.
Locals rushed him to Magura 250-bed District Hospital. He was later referred to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
He succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Confirming the incident, Magura highway police officer-in-charge Alamgir Hossain said that the bus driver managed to escape while police seized both vehicles.
In Dinajpur, BSS also reported, a woman was killed when a truck hit a motorcycle from behind on the Dinajpur-Panchagarh highway in Dasmile area in Sadar upazila of the district.
The deceased is Halima Khatun, 50, wife of Afsar Ali, a resident of Askarpur village of the upazila.
The accident occurred around 1.30pm, leaving the motorcyclist’s pillion rider Halima spot dead, police said.
Halima was returning home on a motorcycle with her husband.
Details could not be known immediately.
Meanwhile, BSS further reported that three persons were killed and five others injured, including a six-month-old infant, in a head-on collision between an oil-laden truck and an easy bike on the Chuadanga-Jhenaidah road in Jafarpur area in Chudanga on Friday around 7:00pm.
Also on Friday at around 6:00pm, United News of Bangladesh reported, a motorcyclist and his pillion rider were killed after a bus hit their motorbike on the Dhaka-Chattogram national highway in Madhya Baushia area under Gazaria upazila in Munshiganj.
