The Border Security Force of India is yet to hand over the body of the Bangladeshi youth more than two days after he was shot dead inside India along the Sultanpur border under Darshana upazila in Chuadanga district.

The victim, Ibrahim Babu, 32, son of Nurul Islam of Jhanjhadanga village of Parkrishnapur Madna union under Damurhuda upazila in Chuadanga, was shot dead at about 12:50pm on July 2, according to Border Guard Bangladesh officials.


The commanding officer of BGB-6 Battalion in Chuadanga, Lieutenant Colonel Nazmul Hasan, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Friday evening that there was no update about handing over the body of the Bangladeshi youth killed by the BSF.

‘I have made a phone call to the commandant of 32 Battalion of the Indian BSF a few minutes back today [Friday].

He replied that he was now in a meeting,’ Nazmul said.

Earlier on Thursday, the BSF and the BGB held two company commander- and commander-level flag meetings, said BGB officials.

Nazmul said that he lodged a strong written protests over the killing of the Bangladeshi citizen and demanded the return of the body.

He said that the BSF assured the BGB that it would hand over the body but did not give any specific time frame.

At least 13 Bangladeshis were killed and 29 others injured in BSF shooting and beating incidents  from January to May this year, according to rights group Ain O Salish Kendra.

From January 2009 to November 2024, the BSF reportedly killed 588 Bangladeshis and injured 773 Bangladeshis, according to rights organisation Odhikar.
