
The Bangladesh women’s football team will be eager to maintain their winning run as they take on Turkmenistan in their final Group C match in Yangon on Saturday.
The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30pm Bangladesh Standard Time, following the group fixture between Myanmar and Bahrain at 3:30pm (BST).Â
Peter Butler’s charges made history by qualifying for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup for the first time, following their 2-1 goal win over Myanmar on Wednesday and a crushing 7-0 victory over Bahrain in their tournament opener.
 ‘We respect our next opponents and will prepare just like we did for the previous matches,’ said Butler after Wednesday’s win over Myanmar.
Bangladesh want to celebrate their qualification success after their third win and their goalkeeping coach Masud Ahamad Uzzal echoed the sentiment, urging the team to remain concentrated.Â
‘We told the girls not to celebrate yet. The job is not finished. We want to end with a win,’ he said after the final training session on Friday.
Bangladesh team captain Afeida Khandaker expressed her excitement during the training session and said she wants to end their campaign on a winning note.Â
‘We feel proud and happy that Bangladesh women’s football team has qualified for the Asian Cup for the first time in history…Everyone in the team is in a very good mood, we practised well today. We will do well in the match tomorrow,’ said the 18-year-old defender.Â
Bangladesh (128th) in the FIFA rankings shocked higher-ranked opponents Myanmar (55th) and Bahrain (92nd). Turkmenistan, their final opponents, are ranked 141st.
The Group C champions, Bangladesh, have qualified for the 12-team AFC Women’s Asian Cup, which will be held in Australia from March 1 to 21, 2026.Â
They joined hosts Australia, defending champions China, South Korea, and Japan in the tournament.
