
At least two members of the Kuki-Chin National Army, the armed group of the Kuki-Chin National Front, were killed in a gunfight with Bangladesh Army personnel in the Polipansha-Mulfipara area under Ruma upazila in Bandarban Thursday morning.
The Inter Services Public Relation Directorate claimed in a press release that one of the deceased was a KNA commander and the other was a member of the KNA.
It identified the ‘commander’ as Putting alias Doly.
The release did not mention anything more about the identity of the deceased persons.
Addressing a press conference at the Officers’ Mess at Dhaka Cantonment in the afternoon, Army Headquarters’ Military Operations Directorate colonel staff Colonel Md Shafiqul Islam said that, during the ongoing operations against KNA in the Chittagong Hill Tracts area, a gunfight occurred between army personnel and the members of KNA early Thursday.
Shafiqul said that two crime suspects were killed after being hit by bullets during the gunfight.
He said that the army seized three modern submachine guns, one Chinese rifle, 364 rounds of bullets, military equipment and some documents. Â Â
Colonel Shafiqul said that their operation in the CHT area was going on.
The ISPR claimed that the security situation in the area improved following such operations as 126 displaced people from the Bawm Community returned to the area and started living there.
