
A leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party was shot dead by unidentified miscreants at Dohar in Dhaka on Wednesday.
The deceased, Harunur Rashid, 65, a resident of Bahra village, was former president of the BNP’s Nayabari Union unit, said the police.
Dohar police station officer-in-charge Hasan Ali said that the incident occurred at about 6:00am near Bahra School in the upazila.
‘We are investigating the murder whether it was stemmed from a personal or political enmity. Filing a case regarding the killing was under way,’ he said.
The police were trying to identify the miscreants and determine the motive behind the killing, the OC added.
According to the people of the area, when they went to the spot near Bahra School, they heard gunshots at about 6:00am.
Harunur Rashid was found lying on the ground, covered in blood. Later, he was taken to Dohar Upazila Health Complex, where on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Several bullet and sharp weapon wounds were found on Harun’s head, neck and body, said the police.
