The Muradnagar police in Cumilla on Monday produced the four people arrested under the Pornography Control Act over the rape of a Hindu woman and circulation of the video of the crime, asking for a seven-day remand for each.

Meanwhile, protests continued as different organisations on Monday condemned the rape incident, demanding punishment for the perpetrators.


Muradnagar police station officer-in-charge Zahidur Rahman told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Monday night that suspects were presented before the Muradnagar Magistrate Court in the afternoon, where a petition was submitted to interrogate them in police custody for seven days.

‘However, we are yet to receive any directive from the court,’ he said.

Fazar Ali, an accused in the rape case, could not be produced in the court as he was hospitalised, he added.

Meanwhile, 38 citizens, including rights activists, academics, lawyers and journalists, in a statement on Monday condemned the Muradnagar rape and demanded punishment for the perpetrators.

They urged the government to ensure the safety and psycho-social support for the victim and her family.

The signatories included Supreme Court lawyer Sara Hossain, Nijera Kori coordinator Khushi Kabir, singer Farzana Wahid Sayan, photographer Shaihidul Alam, Transparency International Bangladesh executive director Iftekharuzzaman, and journalist Saydia Gulrukh.

Meanwhile, Narayanganj Sangskritik Jote in a human chain in front of the Narayanganj press club demanded the highest punishment for the rapists and those who recorded a video of the woman.
