Writers and teachers at a seminar on Sunday said that poet, lyricist, academician and researcher Abu Hena Mustafa Kamal was a charismatic personality in the cultural arena.

Organised Bangla Academy, the seminar was held at the academy premises in the capital.


Mohammad Azam, director general of the academy, delivered the welcome speech at the seminar presided over by president of the academy, Abul Kashem Fazlul Haq.

Noted writer-critic Salimullah Khan delivered the keynote speech while Grand Valley State University professor Azfar Hossain spoke at the session.

Mohammad Azam said that Abu Hena Mustafa Kamal was one of the celebrated personalities in both creative and academic sectors in the cultural arena.

Salimullah Khan said that Abu Hena Mustafa Kamal was a Nazrul-researcher who also wrote a lot of poems dedicated to Nazrul.

‘The academy should publish a book about his writings on Nazrul,’ said Salimullah Khan.

Azfar Hossain said that Abu Hena Mustafa Kamal was a phenomenal teacher who not only wrote poetry and lyrics but introduced his students to many contemporary international poets in his time.

‘Abu Hena has criticised Buddhadeb Basu’s colonial inferiority in his discussion about Nazrul’s creations,’ Azfar Hossain said, adding that Nazrul’s skill in composing literature in different languages are not mentioned. 

Abul Kashem Fazlul Haq said that Abu Hena Mustafa Kamal was an orator who could talk precisely on any topics.

Nazrul Sangeet singer and son of Abu Hena Mustafa Kamal, Sujit Mustafa, also spoke at the event.
