A 27- year-old woman was raped at her home at a village of Muradnagar upazila in Cumilla on Thursday night.
A video of the incident went viral on social media on Saturday night and drew criticism while students of Dhaka University took to the streets in the early hours of Sunday demanding justice for the victim and asking the administration why their sister was raped.
Fazar Ali raped the woman entering into the house forcibly at about 11:00pm on Thursday, according to police officials.
Muradnagar police station officer-in-charge Jahidur Rahman said that victim filed a case with the police station on Friday.
鈥楲ocal people had beaten accused Fazar Ali. We came to know that he is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka city. We are yet to trace his location,鈥� the OC added.
He said that the woman was the mother of two children and belonged to Hindu community.
