
Vice-chancellor of the National University, Professor ASM Amanullah, on Saturday said that only through timely acquisition of skills could students ensure good and attractive job opportunities in the country and abroad and a way to earn more foreign currency.
If skill-based curriculum is formulated, human resource development, industry-academia cooperation is created and entrepreneurship is developed, unemployment will decrease significantly,’ said ASM Amanullah while delivering his speech at the senate session.
The session approved the proposed budget with revenue expenditure of Tk 690 crore 17 lakh 47 thousand for the financial year 2025-2026 and the revised budget of Tk 417 crore 3 lakh 19 thousand for the financial year 2024-2025.
After the VC’s address, NU treasurer Professor ATM Zafrul Azam presented the budget.
ASM Amanullah said that the National University was reforming the curriculum by adding at least two professional, technical or vocational courses to the existing courses.
‘A comprehensive reform action plan has been taken to ensure quality, standard, knowledge-based, creative, skill-based and work-oriented education for the students of the National University,’ he mentioned.
Amanullah highlighted the various steps taken to improve the quality of education at the National University. ‘Efforts are being made to implement the new curriculum from the 2024-25 academic year. At the same time, initiatives have been taken to form career clubs in affiliated colleges to provide advice on future career choices according to the merit, qualifications and skills of students.’
Chaired by the NU VC, the 27th senate session was joined by, among others, senior secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Md Mokhlesur Rahman, senior secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division Siddique Zobair, NU pro-VC Professor Md Lutfar Rahman, pro-VC Professor Md Nurul Islam, additional secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division, divisional commissioners, chairmen of various education boards, principals and academicians of various colleges, 77 senate members, invited syndicate members, senate secretary and NU registrar Molla Mahfuz Al-Hossain.
