
A three-day printmaking workshop titled Alchemy of Light began on Friday at Cosmos Atelier71 at Cosmos Centre in the Malibagh area in the capital Dhaka.
Juton Chandra Roy, an acclaimed artist and art educator, is conducting the workshop.
Organised by Gallery Cosmos, eleven Bangladeshi artists from diverse backgrounds are participating in the workshop.
The workshop focuses on blending of Cyanotype and Gum Bichromate Techniques in printmaking.
Cyanotype and Gum Bichromate are two historic alternative printmaking techniques known for their distinctive visual styles.
Artists Rashed Sukhon, Naznine Akther, Alia Kamal, Farhana Islam, Sheikh Nahid Hasan, Sharmin Rahman Khan, Sumaita Afrin Shupty, Arup Mandal, Shuvra Talukder, Bristy Pathan and Momo Dhiruare are participating in the workshop inaugurated by Gallery Cosmos director Tehmina Enayet on Friday morning.
Artist Anisuzzaman Anis, a professor of the printmaking department at Dhaka University’s faculty of fine art and assistant professor Bishwajit Goswami at the drawing and painting department of the faculty, were present as guests at the inauguration ceremony.
‘The Cosmos Atelier71, a printmaking studio, has been working for development of art in the country for more than 17 years by organising lots of workshops, art camps and exhibition,’ Tehmina Enayet said, adding that creating scope for future generation artists and explore their artistic talents are the main goals of the studio.  Â
‘The blending of these two alternative printmaking techniques will create painterly approaches and multi-layered prints which can help open a new artistic language,’ said Juton Chandra Roy.
The artworks produced during the workshop will be exhibited soon, said the artistic director at Gallery Cosmos Sourav Chowdhury.
The workshop will end on Sunday.
