The Indian Border Security Force pushed 41 individuals, including 14 Rohingyas, into Bangladesh through two border points under Jaintapur upazila in Sylhet and one border point under Borolekha upazila in Moulvibazar between Thursday night and Friday morning.

The BSF pushed 14 Rohingyas into Bangladesh through the Bagchhara border point and 17 others through the Minatila border point under Jaintapur upazila, according to the officials of the Border Guard Bangladesh.

The residents of Borolekha upazila in Moulvibazar alleged that the police did not take any steps when 10 people were pushed into Bangladesh by the Indian BSF though the locals informed them of the matter.

With the latest push-ins, the number of people, including Rohingyas and Indian nationals, pushed into Bangladesh by the BSF since May 7 has increased to 1,722.

The BSF has so far pushed at least 173 Rohingyas, including 50 registered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in India, into Bangladesh.

BGB-19 Battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Zubayer Anwar said that the BSF pushed 14 Rohingyas, including four women and six children, into Bangladesh territory through Bagchhara point near BGB’s Lalakhal border outpost at about 8:00pm on Thursday.

‘The BGB personnel traced the Rohingas immediately after they were pushed into Bangladesh and detained them,’ the BGB officer said.

He said that the detained people were identified as Rohingyas registered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Bangladesh after checking the documents available to them.

‘They were handed over to the local police station early Friday,’ the BGB officer said.

The BGB-48 Battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Md Nazmul Haque said that the BSF pushed 17 people into Bangladesh through the Minatila border point under Jaintapur upazila at about 9:00pm on Thursday.

He said that a BGB patrol team detained the people from the Minatila area immediately after they were pushed into Bangladesh.

They were handed over to the local police, he said.

The BGB officer also said that the detainees, including 5 men, 5 women and 7 children, are residents of Kurigram district.

Jaintapur police station officer-in-charge Abul Bashar Mohammad Badruzzaman said that the fourteen Rohingyas were sent to Ukhiya refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar in the morning.

‘Preparations are underway to hand over 17 Bangladeshis to their respective relatives,’ he said.

Residents of Borolekha upazila in Moulvibazar said that the police did not take any step when 10 people were pushed into Bangladesh by the BSF though they informed the matter to the police Friday morning.

Azad Bahar Jamali, a resident of Chandinagar village under Dakshin Shahbajpur under Borolekha upazila, told reporters that he confined the 10 people, including women and children, in their area after they were pushed into Bangladesh by the BSF.

He said that his neighbour Nazrul Islam informed the matter to the local police station over the phone at that moment but the police did not consider the matter with due importance.

Borolekha police station officer-in-charge Md Mahbubur Rahman Molla told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that he did not get any information to make an official comment in this regard.

BGB 52 Battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Ariful Haque Chowdhury told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Friday evening that they could take necessary steps against the people if they were informed at that time.

‘It was too late when we heard about the matter. Those who had infiltrated have left the area,’ he said, adding that a special team of the BGB was sent to the Chandinagar area to search out whether anyone else was in the area.
