The Dhaka North City Corporation on Wednesday approved Tk 6,069 crore budget for the financial year 2025–26.

The budget was approved at the seventh corporation meeting held at Nagar Bhaban, the headquarters of the DNCC, at Gulshan 2 in the capital.


Of the Tk 6,069 crore budget, the DNCC is expecting Tk 3,636 crore from revenue, Tk 1,450 crore from government and foreign-funded projects and Tk 119 crore from government grants.

Of the expenditures, DNCC plans to spend Tk 2,032.50 crore on roads and infrastructure construction, Tk 436.30 crore on waste management, Tk 187.75 crore on mosquito control and Tk 257 crore on staff salaries and benefits for DNCC employees.

Of the revenue target, DNCC is expecting Tk 1,650 crore from holding tax, Tk 1,080 crore from property transfer fees, Tk 200 crore from trade licences and Tk 100 crore from licences of rickshaws. 

The revised budget for FY2024-24, Tk 4, 258 crore was also approved at the meeting.

DNCC administrator Mohammad Azaz said, ‘Although the higher revenue earning will be challenging for us, we want to achieve it… Priority will be given to development across the 18 newly formed wards,’ said a DNCC press release. 

At the meeting, the Dhaka North City Corporation proposed renaming the ‘Ward Secretary’ as ‘Ward Supervisor,’ ‘Ward Coordinator,’ or ‘Ward Organiser,’ and the proposal would be forwarded to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives.
