The chief coordinator of the Ganosamhati Andolan, Zonayed Saki, at a press conference in the capital on Tuesday said that the government鈥檚 failure to control mob violence was not acceptable.

He also said that a dangerous culture of attacking, humiliating and torturing people by creating mobs had been introduced in the country.

Referring to the recent mob violence during the arrest of former chief election commissioner, KM Nurul Huda, Saki said that everyone, who was behind holding farcical elections in 2014, 2018 and 2024 in the country, was responsible for such elections and they must be brought to justice.

Harassing an accused before trial is not an example of establishing justice, said Saki, demanding that the government take actions against mob violence.

Replying to questions from journalists, Zonayed Saki also condemned Monday鈥檚 cocktail explosion in front of the central office of the National Citizen Party.

The Ganosamhati Andolan on the day organised the press conference to announce a month-long programme to observe the first anniversary of the July uprising that ousted the authoritarian Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League regime on August 5, 2024.

The programme of the party will include paying tribute to the July uprising martyrs, holding conferences and discussion sessions with protesters, injured and family members of the martyrs, organising rallies in Dhaka and elsewhere in the country and others from July 4 to August 4.

Ganosamhati Andolan executive coordinator Abul Hassan Rubel made the announcement at the press conference held at the party office in the capital鈥檚 Hatirpool.

The press conference also announced the schedule of the events, inauguration of renewal of the party鈥檚 membership and recruitment of new members.

In a written statement, Rubel also announced that the party鈥檚 three-day fifth national convention would be held in October 10-12.

Central leaders of the party, Monir Uddin Pappu, Bachchu Bhuyan, Julhasnayeen Babu and Dipak Kumar Roy, among others, were present at the press conference.
