A still from Anyadin.

A special screening of filmmaker Kamar Ahmad Simon-directed forthcoming film titled Anyadin was held at the Star Cineplex Shimanto Shomvar at Dhanmondi in the capital on Tuesday.

Produced by Sara Afreen, the film has recently received the certification under the Bangladesh Film Certification Board and is ready for release.

Fisheries and livestock adviser Farida Akhter, poet and thinker Farhad Mazhar, photographer and activist Shahidul Alam, actress Azmeri Haque Badhon, among others, were present at the event.

The film is set on the ancient paddle steamer while passengers from all walks of life are travelling on it.

The film revolves round passengers’ chatting, singing and bickering where they also address some of the country’s most pressing issues, including development and fast growth of urban areas.

The film premiered in 2021 at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam in the Netherlands and won the Harrell Award for Best Feature at the Camden International Film Festival held in the United States in 2022.

Despite the success in the international arena, the second film of Kamar Ahmad Simon’s ‘water trilogy’, Anyadin, did not receive a censor certificate due to political consideration of the ousted Awami League government because the film spoke about elections, law and order, development and overall politics of the country under that regime.

‘The film did not receive permission during the Awami League government, but after the student-led mass uprising we have received a certificate indicating a lot about the desire of artistes and freedom of speech in the country,’ Kamar Ahmad Simon said, adding that the film will be released at cinemas in July.    Â
