Jahangirnagar University got two new chancellor-nominated members for its syndicate, the highest decision-making body of the university, on Monday.

Professor Saleh Ahammad Khan of the botany and professor Khondaker Mohammod Shariful Huda of the geography and environment department were appointed as the members for a two-year term.

The appointments were confirmed on Monday through a notification signed by ASM Kashem, senior assistant secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education.

The nominations were made by the president of the country, who also serves as the chancellor of the university, under Sections 22(1)(G) and 22(3) of the Jahangirnagar University Act 1973.

This development comes nearly nine months after the July uprising, replacing two Awami League-leaning professors with two new members reportedly affiliated with the Jatiyatabadi Shikkhak Forum, a BNP-leaning teachers’ platform.

The newly appointed syndicate members have sought cooperation and support from all to carry out their responsibilities.
