Two more dengue patients died in hospitals and 392 others were hospitalised with the viral fever across the country in the past 24 hours till 8:00am on Monday.

Both of the deceased are women. One of them, aged about 40, died in Kurmitola General Hospital in Dhaka and the other, aged 100, died in Barguna General Hospital, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.


With the latest deaths and infections, the country reported 34 dengue deaths and hospitalisation of 8,150 others with the viral fever this year.

Of them, 3,805 people were hospitalised in the first 23 days of June. A total of 11 others died of dengue during the same period.

A total of 1,161 dengue patients were hospitalised in January, 374 in February, 336 in March, 701 in April, and 1,773 others were admitted to hospitals with the fever in May.

A total of 10 people died of dengue in January, three in February, seven in April and three others died of dengue in May.

A dengue outbreak was first officially reported in the country in 2000 when 93 people died and 5,551 patients were hospitalised, according to DGHS data. Dengue killed 1,705 people and sent 3, 21,179 others to hospitals in 2023 alone against 853 deaths and 2, 44,246 hospitalisation between 2000 and 2022, the DGHS data showed.

In the past year, the country witnessed a severe dengue outbreak that resulted in 575 deaths and 101,214 reported cases. A total of 100,040 patients recovered during the period.
