The Rajshahi Education Board on Saturday cancelled a history 2nd paper question set for the forthcoming Higher Secondary Certificate examinations after a trunk containing the question papers was found unlocked and breached inside the Dhamoirhat police station in Naogaon.
The education board chairman, Professor ANM Mofakkharul Islam, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the board decided to cancel the breached set of questions across all eight districts under its jurisdiction.
‘We have multiple alternative sets for the subject, so the examination will proceed without disruption,’ he said.
HSC examinations will begin on June 26 across the country. Officials of the Rajshahi Education Board said that the history 2nd paper examination was scheduled for July 19.
Mofakkharul, who visited the police station, said that keeping a murder case detainee in the same room in which the trunk with question papers was highly unacceptable.
A packet of the question papers for the history 2nd paper examination was discovered lying in a corner of the locker room at the police station, with some pages torn.
The Naogaon district police had withdrawn a sub-inspector and a constable responsible for custodial security from the Dhamoirhat police station and attached them to the district police lines for negligence of duty.
Two separate probe committees have been formed and a case has been filed in this regard. The detainee has been sent to jail in this connection.
Muhammad Safiul Sarwar, superintendent of the Naogaon district police, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·, ‘A three-member probe committee has been formed to investigate the breach. We will take appropriate action based on the findings of the committee.’
The police official said that a new case was lodged against the detainee for damaging government property, and he was sent to jail through a court.
The Naogaon deputy commissioner’s office has launched a separate inquiry into the incident.
‘Although some papers were torn, none were missing. The total count remained accurate,’ said additional deputy commissioner Sadia Afrin.
According to officials, three trunks containing HSC question papers for Government MM Degree College at Dhamoirhat upazila were kept in the Dhamoirhat police station’s locker room under police custody, as per the board’s standard protocol to ensure secure distribution of the question papers on examination days.
However, during a routine question sorting process on June 17, one of the trunks was found unlocked and breached.
