Dhaka has proposed to New Delhi to hold a consular dialogue to resolve the issues involving the ongoing incidents of people being pushed into Bangladesh from the Indian side.
‘We are in regular communication with the Indian authorities on the incidents of push-in from India. We have already proposed a consular dialogue with them,’ acting foreign secretary Md Ruhul Alam Siddique told a press briefing at the ministry on Tuesday.
Responding to a question he said that Dhaka had protested at the recent incidents of people being pushed into Bangladesh from India.
He said that they had also contacted the Indian authorities to share ‘real time’ information and advance data of the flood forecasting.
About the progress of Dhaka’s request for the extradition of deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India amid a student-led mass uprising on August 5 last year, the secretary evaded giving any answer and briefed journalists about the situation of Bangladeshis in Tehran amid the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel.
Dhaka on several occasions recently called on the Indian authorities to stop pushing anyone into the Bangladesh territory and follow a legal procedure if any undocumented Bangladesh national was detained there.
Indian agencies, including Border Security Force, have pushed more than 1,500 people, including Indian nationals and Rohingyas into Bangladesh since May 7, violating international laws and norms.
Of the individuals pushed into Bangladesh by the Indian BSF are at least 147 Rohingyas, including 50 registered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in India. Â
With India Bangladesh has 4,156 kilometres of border of which some 180km falls on different water bodies and 79km on the Sundarban.
