
Visiting delegation of United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances on Monday commended the significant steps taken by the interim government to address the issue of enforced disappearances.
The delegation particularly welcomed Bangladesh鈥檚 accession to the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance.
They also praised the work and commitment demonstrated by the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances.
Gra偶yna Baranowska, vice-chairperson, and Ana Lorena Delgadillo Perez, member of the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances called on acting foreign secretary Md Ruhul Alam Siddique at the Ministry and discussed relevant issues.
They are paying a study visit to Bangladesh in June 15-19, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the meeting, the WGEID representatives expressed their interest in understanding how the Group鈥檚 mandate could further support the Government鈥檚 efforts to prevent and redress Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances.
The foreign secretary underscored the government鈥檚 unwavering resolve to uphold, protect and promote human rights and ensure justice for victims.
He welcomed the Group鈥檚 support and technical assistance in the process moving forward.
