At least eight people were killed and 17 other injured in road accidents in Cox’s Bazar, Kushtia, Jaipurhat, Narail and Bogura on Monday.

¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Cox’s Bazar reported that three people were killed and 10 other injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a covered-van at Rashidnagar Jetighat under Ramu in Cox’s Bazar.


The deceased were Habibullah, 55, and his son Mohammad Riyad, 22, both residents of South Patali under Cox’s Bazar Sadar, and Rimjhim Barua, 23, daughter of Himangshu Barua of East Rajarkul under Ramu.

Crossing highway police station officer-in-charge Md Nasir Uddin said that the bodies were sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations and legal procedures were under way.

¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Kushtia reported that a student of Islamic University was killed in a road accident at Bittipara area under sadar upazila in Kushtia

The deceased, Rashedul Islam, was a master’s student of Arabic language and literature department of the university.

According to people of the area, Rashedul was returning to the campus sitting on the engine cover of a bus belonging to Shyamoli Paribahan.

The bus, at one point, collided head-on with a speedy truck, resulting in Rashedul falling off the bus, and injured him critically on the spot.

Later, the doctors of Kushtia General Hospital pronounced him dead upon arrival.

The Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that a man was killed and five others were injured when a tractor collided with an auto-rickshaw on the Jaipurhat-Naogaon road at Khanjanpur Mission area of sadar upazila in Jaipurhat.

The deceased, Idris Ali, 41, driver of the auto-rickshaw, was a resident of Adarshpara Mohalla in the upazila.

Sadar police station OC Khandaker Farid Hossain said that the injured were taken to Jaipurhat 250-bed General Hospital.

Among the injured, Masud Hossain, Shamim Hossain and his wife Minu Akhter were shifted to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the BSS reported that a Saudi Arabia expatriate was killed as a trolley hit his motorbike in Jainagar area under Kalia in Narail.

The deceased was Azizur Rahman, 30, a resident of Panipara village of the upazila.

Naragati police station OC Ashiqur Rahman said that Azizur got married at Kamshiya village of the upazila in the past Friday and was returning home from his in-laws’ house.

The BSS also reported that two people were killed and two others injured in separate road accidents in Sherpur and Nandigram in Bogura.

The victims were Momin Fakir, 38, a resident of Siraj Kandi village under Bhuapur in Tangail, and Morshedul Bari, 30.

According to highway police, a stationary truck undergoing repairs on the roadside was hit from behind by another speeding truck on the Bogura-Dhaka highway, killing driver Momin Fakir on the spot.

In another incident, van driver Morshedul Bari succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the same hospital on Monday morning.
