Police on Sunday recovered the body of a youth who was allegedly beaten to death on suspicion of theft in Gazipur.

The deceased was identified as Shahriar Rahman Heaven, 34, son of Humayun Kabir from the Chapulia area of Gazipur Metropolitan City.


According to witnesses, several people called Shahriar out of his house on Saturday evening and beat him after tying his hands and legs.

The officer-in-charge of Sadar police station under the Gazipur Metropolitan Police, Mehedi Hasan, said that the deceased had multiple cases against him over theft, mugging and drug-related charges.

The body was found with his hands and legs tied, and there were injury marks all over his body, the police official said, adding that the incident was under investigation and necessary action would be taken upon receiving a written complaint.

The youth鈥檚 body was sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The deceased鈥檚 family claimed that Shahriar was murdered over a long-standing land-related dispute with those who killed him.
