The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank presidential candidate, Zou Jiayi,聽on Sunday paid a courtesy visit to finance adviser Salehuddin Ahmed at the latter鈥檚 office at the secretariat.

During their meeting, the visiting AAIB presidential candidate sought cooperation from the finance adviser regarding the forthcoming election scheduled to be held in Beijing on June 24-26, 2025, said finance ministry officials.聽聽


China has nominated Zou Jiayi, a former vice finance minister, as a candidate for the next president of the China-led AIIB.

Zou, who worked for international financial institutions such as the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, will replace current and founding president Jin Liqun whose second term will expire on January 15, 2026.

Zou鈥檚 will assume his AIIB presidency role at a tumultuous time for the world of development finance, as US president Donald Trump seeks to withdraw American support for overseas aid projects and China looks to gain a bigger role.

The finance adviser lauded the AIIB lending activities in Bangladesh.

The AAIB which provided $400 million as budget support in the outgoing financial year of 2024-25 has also committed $300 in the same fiscal.

The AIIB that started its operation in 2016 has already approved loans worth around $4.5 billion for around 20 projects.
