The UIU ASCEND team from United International University has recently bagged 2nd place in Asia and 7th place in the World at the CanSat Competition 2025 organised by the American Astronautical Society.

The competition was held in Virginia in the United States in June 5–8, said a press release on Sunday.


The UIU team stood 3rd in Asia and 11th place in the World at the CanSat Competition 2024. The Competition was sponsored by NASA, US Naval Research Lab, Siemens among others.

CanSat is an annual student design-build-launch competition for space-related topics that involves designing a satellite capsule. This satellite needs to be launched and deployed at a height of about 670 to 725 metres, and demonstrate successful deployment and landing sequences till the probe lands successfully.

A total of 34 teams from around the world, including 3 teams from Bangladesh, participated in the final round of the CanSat competition. Participating in the competition for the second time, the UIU team secured 7th place in the world, 2nd place among Asian teams and 1st place among Bangladesh teams.

34 teams from 17 different countries including the US, Argentina, Taiwan, Canada, Turkey, Korea, the UK, India, Italy, Mexico, Malaysia, Singapore and Germany compete in the grand final of the competition.
