At least 10 people were injured as two factions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party clashed in Gazipur鈥檚 Kaliakair upazila on Sunday over formation of the new upazila committee of the party.

Chase and counter-chase between the factions took place in the Saheb Bazar area of the upazila in the afternoon and police fired tear gas shells to control the situation, leaving at least 10 activists from both factions injured.

According to the party source, the convening committees of Kaliakair upazila BNP and municipal BNP were announced on Saturday but a faction rejected the committee.

Members of the law enforcement agencies were deployed in the Saheb Bazar area to avoid any untoward incident.
