
The Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Alexander Khozin, on Sunday said that they were expecting the first unit of the Nuclear Power Plant at Rooppur in Pabna would be launched this year.
‘Presently, talented engineers, designers, and technical specialists from Russia and Bangladesh are working hard towards the completion of the Nuclear Power Plant in Rooppur, with its first unit expected to be launched by the end of this year,’ said the Russian envoy while addressing a reception on the occasion of the Russian National Day in the Dhaka city.
He mentioned that 80 years ago, the Soviet Union founded its atomic industry.
‘It became a symbol of scientific progress and solid sovereignty of the country and largely impacted the development of the entire national economy,’ the diplomat said.
Alexander Khozin addressing the audience with welcoming words highlighted Russia’s vast natural resources, scientific potential, and cultural heritage.
The ambassador also emphasised Russia’s independent foreign policy that aims at creating anequal and indivisible security architecture in Eurasia.
Speaking as chief guest, interim government adviser for power, energy and mineral resources, road transport and bridges and also for railways Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan recalled the solid foundation Russia-Bangladesh relations stand on and expressed optimism about deepening bilateral cooperation in energy and agriculture sectors.
The event’s cultural programme featured a musical performance by the Moscow Russian Song Ensemble.Â
The guest performance was organised by the Russian state corporation ‘Rosatom’, which is constructing Bangladesh’s first nuclear power plant at Rooppur in Pabna.
