A youth was stabbed to death reportedly by his father in the Jhauchar area of Hazaribagh in the capital on Saturday night in a feud over going aboard.
The deceased is Rahabul Islam Rasel, 16, a resident of Lalmonirhat district.
Rasel used to work as a staff member at a hotel in the Hazaribagh area.
The incident took place on the ground floor of a building on Amla Tower Road at Hazaribagh at about 11:00pm on Saturday and Rasel was declared dead by the doctor on duty in the emergency ward at Dhaka Medical College Hospital at about 11:45pm, according to police and the family.
The victim’s uncle, Humayun Kabir, said that Rasel and his father Juel Rana locked in an altercation at about 11:00pm on Saturday over going aboard.
‘Rasel’s father stabbed him with knife in the chest and we recovered Rasel after hearing the news and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition where the doctor on duty declared him dead,’ said Humayn Kabir, adding that Rasel’s mother lives in Jordan.Â
He said that the conflict between the father and his son began as the father wanted to go aboard before his son.
DMCH police outpost in-charge inspector Md Faruk said that the body was kept at the DMCH morgue for autopsy.
Hazaribagh police officer-in-charge Saiful Islam said that they were trying to detain the accused father.
‘Rasel’s mother was scheduled to take Rasel and his father to Jordan,’ the OC said, adding that both of them wanted to go first and the conflict ended in the murder.
He said that the process of filing a case by the victim’s elder brother in this regard was under way.
