
At least seven people were killed and 25 more were injured in two separate road crashes in Dinajpur and Munshiganj districts between Friday night and Saturday.
In the two accidents, buses hit trucks from behind and all the victims were bus passengers.
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that five people including three women were killed and 15 others injured when a bus hit at least two trucks on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj regional highway in the Nurjahanpur area under Ghoraghat upazila in Dinajpur at around 3:00am on Saturday.
Of the deceased, two are identified as Tamanna Akhter, 24, daughter of Hashem Ali and Aminul Islam, 35, son of Amzad Ali. Both were residents of Panchagarh Sadar upazila.
The accident occurred when the Dhaka-bound Nabil Paribahan bus hit a mini truck parked on the roadside from behind. Then it hit another truck.
Officer-in-charge of Ghoraghat police Najmul Haque said that three people died on the spot.
Nine people were taken to Ghoraghat Upazila Health Complex in critical condition, where on-duty doctors declared two more dead, he said, adding that they are trying to identify other deceased people.
Of the wounded, six were shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in the morning as their condition deteriorated.
Police sources also said that the victims were passengers of the bus and residents of Panchagarh, Dinajpur and Noakhali.
ANM Niamat Ullah, assistant superintendent of police (Hakimpur-Ghoraghat circle) of the district, said that the bus and mini truck were taken into police custody.
‘The bus driver, his assistant and supervisor fled the scene after the accident,’ he said, adding that police sent the bodies to the Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital morgue.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Munshiganj reported that two people were killed and 10 more were injured when a bus hit a truck on the Padma Bridge on the Mawa side in the district at around 11:00pm on Friday.
Padma Bridge (north) police station officer-in-charge Zakir Hossain said that when the Imad Paribahan bus hit the truck from behind the front side of the bus became badly damaged and left 12 passengers injured.
On information, Srinagar fire service rescue team rushed the injured ones to Srinagar Upazila Health Complex where the doctor on duty declared two dead, said Srinagar fire service and civil defence station in-charge Dewan Azad.
Srinagar Upazila Health Complex emergency department on-duty physician Monira Sultana said that they sent the injured, including some in critical condition, to the capital for better treatment.
