
The Indian Border Security Force and police pushed 44 more people into Bangladesh, including 13 Rohingyas, through several border points in Mymensingh, Panchagrah, Moulvibazar and Dinajpur districts between Thursday evening and Friday evening.
With the latest push-ins, the number of people, including Rohingyas and Indian nationals, pushed into Bangladesh by India since May 7 reached 1,457.
The Indian BSF pushed 13 Rohingyas, including two registered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in India, through Natunpallathal border point under Borolekha upazila in Moulvibazar district on Friday morning, ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· Staff correspondent in Sylhet reported.
BGB-52 Battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Ariful Haque Chowdhury said that they detained 13 Rohingyas, including three women and six children at Natunpallathal border point at about 9:00am Friday.
‘We have found two Rohingyas registered with UNHCR in India. Many detainees claimed that they were registered in India but do not have identity cards right now,’ said the BGB official.
Quoting the detainees, he said that they used to live in India for more than 10 years and stayed in several areas, including the state of Gujarat.
Ariful Haque Chowdhury further said that they were having communications with the Office of the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner in this regard and was also trying to hold discussion with their Indian counterpart BSF.Â
With this, Indian BSF pushed at least 135 Rohingyas, including 50 registered with the UNHCR in India, into Bangladesh.Â
On Thursday, the Indian police pushed nine people into Bangladesh through a border point under Dhobaura upazila in Mymensingh district, according to Border Guard Bangladesh officials.
Commanding officer of BGB-31 Battalion in Netrokona Lieutenant Colonel ASM Quamruzzaman told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Friday that they had detained nine people at about 6:00pm on Thursday.
‘All of them claimed to be Bangladeshi citizens living in India’s Chennai. We have handed them over to the Dhobaura police on Friday morning,’ he added.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Panchagrah reported that the Indian BSF pushed seven people, including three women and two children, into Bangladesh through Golabari border point under Sadar upazila in the district on Friday morning.
Commanding officer of BGB-56 Battalion in Nilphamari Lieutenant Colonel Sheikh Badruddoza said that their patrol team detained seven people pushed into Bangladesh.
‘In the primary interrogation, detainees claimed themselves Bangladeshi citizens working in India for a long time. We have handed them over to the Panchagrah sadar police,’ he said, adding that they had also lodged protest to the BSF for not following border laws.
Panchagrah Sadar police officer-in-charge Abdullah Hil Zaman said that the detainees would be under the supervision of upazila nirbahi officer until their identity verification.
‘We will hand them over to families after confirming their identities,’ the OC added.
The Indian BSF pushed 15 people into Bangladesh through a border point under Birampur upazila in Dinajpur on Friday morning, state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported, quoting BGB-29 Battalion acting commander Major Md Sajjadul Islam.
A BGB-29 patrol team detained those 15 individuals—three men, three women and nine children—near Achintopur border at 6:30am on Friday.
Md Rafiqul Islam, commandant of Achintopur Border Outpost in Biral upazila of Dinajpur said that the BGB patrol team noticed the group wandering about inside the border.
Quoting the detainees, the BGB official said that BSF had forcibly pushed them into Bangladesh through border pillar 295/1 S on Friday night.
Later, the BGB members brought them to the Achintopur border outpost camp, he said, adding that the process of handing the detainees over to the Birampur police was underway.
