
At least 18 people were killed and 33 more were injured in road crashes that took place in six days between June 5 and Tuesday in 10 districts in the country.
The highest, nine, people were killed on Monday followed by five on June 8, three on June 6 and one on Tuesday.
In districts, the highest, four, people were killed in Narsingdi, followed by two each in Khulna, Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Chandpur, and Mymensingh and one each in Khagrachari, Rangpur, Sylhet and Manikganj districts.
No accidents were reported on June 5 and June 7.
Bangladesh celebrated Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest religious festivals of Muslims, on June 7.
On Tuesday, a woman died on the spot and two of her family members were injured when a vehicle named Mahindra overturned in the Jharnatila area of Tabalchari union under Matiranga upazila in Khagrachari at around 12:15pm.
The deceased is Promila Tripura, 47, wife of Guja Tripura in the Maischari area.
Tabalchari police outpost sub-inspector Mustafizur Rahman said that in the accident Guja Tripura and another family member were injured and taken to Khagrachari Modern Sadar Hospital.
No case was filed in this regard yet, he added.
On Monday, ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Narsingdi reported that four people, including three friends, were killed and one was injured in two separate motorcycle accidents.
The deceased are Saiful Islam, 25, son of late Jamal Uddin of Mirzakandi area of Machimpur union in Shibpur upazila, Ashik Mia, 23, son of Badu Mia, Apu Mia, 20, son of Babul Mia and Rifat Neel Ahmed.
One of the accidents took place at around 11:30pm in the Bandardia area on the Itakhola-Mathakhola regional highway when a bus collided head-on with the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction carrying Saiful, Ashik and Apu.
Locals and fire service personnel rushed the three to Shibpur Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared Saiful and Ashik dead.
On the way to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Apu died.
In the afternoon, motorcyclist Rifat was killed and another person was injured in a head-on collision between two motorcycles at Nagriyakandi Bridge in Narsingdi.
Confirming both of the news, Shibpur model police officer-in-charge Afzal Hossain said that legal action was under way.
United News of Bangladesh reported that two people were killed and four others were injured in a head-on collision between a truck and an easy-bike in the Darogar Bhita area near Rupsha Bridge in Khulna at about 6:00am.
Rafiqul Islam, 56, the easy-bike driver, and Tanzil, 12, one of the bike passengers, died on the spot.
Md Abdur Rahim, a sub-inspector and officer-in-charge of the Lobonchora police station, said that the injured bike passengers were taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
UNB also reported that two people died on the spot and two others were injured in a collision between a microbus and a battery-run auto-rickshaw in front of Saifing Factory in the Tarabo Biswa Road area under Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj on Monday night.
One of the deceased is identified as Shahrier Hasan Akash, 29, son of Abul Hasan.
Liakat Ali, officer-in-charge of the Tarabo police station, said that all victims were in the auto-rickshaw.
The injured were taken to a local hospital from where they were shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment, he said, adding that the microbus driver managed to flee.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Munshiganj reported that a motorcyclist was killed and his co-rider injured when a bus collided head-on with their motorcycle on the Dhaka-Chattogram national highway’s Gazaria part in the district on Monday at around 12:30pm.
The deceased is Mohammad Yeasin, 32, son of Harun-ur-Rashid from Amoir Battala village of Dhamgarh union under the Narayanganj Bandar upazila.
After the accident the injured were rushed to the Hamdard Genral Hospital where Yeasin was declared dead and the injured was sent to the DMCH.Â
Gazaria Bhoberechar highway police outpost in-charge Md Shawkat Hossain said that they seized the bus and legal action under was under way.
On June 8, UNB reported that two people were killed and five others, including a child, injured in a head-on collision between a Dhaka-bound Jainpur Paribahan bus and a Chandpur-bound CNG-run auto-rickshaw near Bordia Bridge in Chandpur’s Matlab upazila in the afternoon.
The deceased are CNG driver Siddiqur Rahman, 50, of Holdia village under Matlab Uttar upazila, and Tapan Choudhury, 35, of Fotehpur village under the same upazila.
Five injured were taken to Chandpur 250-bed General Hospital, where Siddiqur was declared dead upon arrival.
Two others were taken to Matlab South Upazila Health Complex, where Tapan was also declared dead.
Two critically injured were referred to Dhaka for better treatment, said Biplob Das, medical officer at Chandpur hospital.
Saleh Ahmed, officer-in-charge of the Matlab south police station, said that they seized both the vehicles but the bus driver managed to flee.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Rangpur reported that a fourth-year student of Dinajpur Medical College Tareq Mahmud Utso, 22, died on the spot and his co-rider was injured in a head-on collision between the motorcycle carrying them and a microbus on Sunday at around 8:00pm on the Rangpur-Dinajpur highway at Khiar Jumma area under the Taraganj upazila in the district.
The deceased is the son of Nuruzaman Bokul and a resident of Lalbagh area in the city.
The officer-in-charge of Taraganj police, Mosaraf Hossain, said that the microbus left the scene soon after the mishap.
UNB reported that a female doctor who was riding a rickshaw died and the rickshaw puller sustained serious injuries after being run over by a truck at Jitu Mia Point in the Sylhet city on Sunday at around 11:15am.
The deceased, Rahima Khatun Jessy, 27, was daughter of Abu Noser of Lalabazar area under the South Surma upazila of Sylhet.
She was an intern at Sylhet Women’s Medical College Hospital and a duty doctor at SSKS Clinic, said Md Habibur Rahman, inspector for investigation of Sylhet Kotwali model police.
The OC said that Jessy succumbed to her injuries at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
‘The truck has been seized, but its driver fled the scene,’ he added.
UNB also reported that a motorcyclist died on the spot in a head-on collision between the motorcycle carrying him and a bus on the Charbailjuri-Pancharashta flyover in Manikganj’s Ghior on Sunday at around 2:00pm.
The deceased, Sirajul Islam, was son of Thandu Sheikh from Chargobindapur village under the Daulatpur upazila.
Ghior police officer-in-charge Islam said that the bus driver and his assistant fled the scene immediately while the police seized both the vehicles.
On June 6, UNB reported that two people were killed and 12 others were injured when a bus crashed into a roadside mosque on the Mymensingh-Sherpur regional highway under Tarokanda upazila of Mymensingh at around 8:30am on June 6.
The deceased are Pervez Mia, 35, and his son Hasan Mia, 8, of Sanarpar village in Narayanganj.
The accident occurred in the Paschim Taldighi Fakir Bari area, said officer-in-charge of Tarakanda police station, Tipu Sultan and added that the injured were taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Munshiganj reported that one person named Masud Rana was killed and four others were injured, the four from same family, in a head-on collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a wood-laden nasimon on the Munshignaj-Chanbari road in the Atpara Kolligaon area under Srinagar upazila on June 6 at around 3:30pm.
Witnesses said that in the clash all in the auto-rickshaw including the driver sustained injuries.
Masud died on the way to the DMCH while his wife was critically injured along with their two children, said the Srinagar fire service and civil defence station officer Dewan Azad.
