The police recovered the hanging body of a female student of Khulna University from her home in the city鈥檚 Labanchora area Monday morning.
The deceased is Mahfuza Afrin Upoma, 23, a third-year student of the Law department and daughter of Md Mahbubur Rahman, a resident of Amir Hossain Lane in Jinnapara.
Quoting locals, police said that Upoma went to bed after dinner at about 11:00pm on Sunday.
Family members noticed she was not responding on Monday morning and upon peeking through her room鈥檚 window found her hanging.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Khulna Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Labanchora Police Station officer-in-charge Touhiduzzaman said, 鈥楿poma was known to be a bit stubborn. Her parents were aware of her suicidal tendencies and deliberately did not install a ceiling fan in her room. However, she used a scarf to hang herself from a fan hook.鈥�
An unnatural death case was filed with the police station in this regard.
The body will be handed over to the family after all legal formalities, he added.
