
The interim government has reduced about Tk 46,308 crore in costs in 33 projects under the ministries of road transport and bridges, railways and power, energy and mineral resources.
The information was disclosed by the chief adviser’s press wing on Wednesday.
As per the disclosure, the highest amount, Tk 12,425.52 crore, has been reduced in nine projects under the Energy and Mineral Resources Division.
The second highest amount, Tk 10,854.32 crore, has been reduced in 10 projects under the Road Transport and Highways Division.
In five projects under the railways ministry, Tk 8,036.9 crore has been reduced.
About Tk 7,537 crore has been reduced in four projects under the Bridges Division.
And Tk 7,454.31 crore has been reduced in five projects under the Power Division.
Under the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, Tk 9,814 crore will be reduced in importing refined fuel oil in the 2024-2025 financial year, Tk 2,190 crore by increasing the capacity of the Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited, Tk 126.76 crore in purchasing 17 cargos of LNG, Tk 117.72 crore in the construction of the Bogura-Rangpur-Syedpur gas transmission pipeline network project, Tk 58.68 crore in the construction of 19-floor Meghna Bhaban in Agrabad area in Chattogram, Tk 56.25 crore in the construction of gas distribution pipeline network in Rangpur, Nilphamari, Pirganj and adjacent areas, Tk 33.53 crore in the pre-paid gas meter set-up project for the KGDCL’s residential customers, Tk 18.83 crore in the construction of Fouzdarhat-Sitakunda-Mirsarai pipeline project and Tk 9.75 crore in the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of custody transfer flow meter with supervisory control at ERL tank firm.
Under the Road Transport and Highways Division, Tk 6,872.46 crore has been reduced in the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (Line – 5) Southern Route project, Tk 1,576.5 crore in the Bangladesh Road Safety project, Tk 654 crore in developing the Ashuganj river port-Sarail-Dhorkhar-Akhaura land port highway to four-lane national highway project, Tk 615.47 crore in the western bridge improvement project, Tk 442.77 crore by cancelling four packages to rehabilitate and reconstruct roads in Habiganj, Tk 332 crore in repairing damaged Mirpur-10 and Kazipra metro rail stations, Tk 240.45 crore in developing the Domar-Chilahati-Bhawlaganj, Domar-Joldhaka and Joldhaka-Bhadurdorgah-Dimla district highway as standard, Tk 54.14 crore in developing the Bhuapur-Tarkandi district highway, Tk 45.53 crore in developing the Mymensingh district highway and Tk 21 crore in the installation of axle load stations on different highways project.
Under the railways ministry, Tk 6,698.5 crore has been reduced in the construction of dual gauge track from Dohazari to Cox’s Bazar via Ramu and Ramu to Myanmar project, Tk 621.89 crore in the Padma Bridge Rail Link project, Tk 518.09 crore in the construction of dual gauge double track from Akhaura to Laksham project, Tk 159.28 crore in the construction of dual gauge track from Akhaura to Agartala, and Tk 39.12 crore in the development of rolling stick operation project.
Under the Bridges Division, Tk 5,500 crore has been reduced in the construction of elevated road at the Mithamoin upazila project, Tk 1,835 crore in the Padma Bridge construction project, Tk 127 crore in the contract to operate and maintain the Karnaphuli Tunnel and Tk 75 crore in the contract to operate and maintain the Padma Bridge.
Under the Power Division, Tk 2,630.31 crore has been reduced in reducing tariff in the government-owned companies, Tk 2,500 crore by reducing tariffs in Matarbari coal-based power plant, Tk 1,500 crore by following plan to reduce cost by 10 per cent, Tk 470 crore by reducing service charge in fuel-based private power plants and Tk 354 crore by importing more liquid fuel per shipment.
