The Rapid Action Battalion on Tuesday said that it had intensified surveillance and patrols across the country to ensure safety and security of people and their properties before Eid-ul-Azha, one of the largest Muslim religious festivals to be celebrated in the country on June 7.

RAB director for legal and media wing commander MZM Intekhab Chowdhury made the statement at a press briefing held at the RAB Media Centre in the capital’s Karwan Bazar area on the day.

He said that the RAB’s control room, mobile patrol, camps, observation posts, check-posts and CCTV monitoring would be used to ensure security during the 10-day Eid holiday beginning tomorrow.

The force has taken these measures to prevent any untoward incidents, including those related to animal trading, Eid congregations and transactions, he said.

‘We have yet to find any specific information about any kind of sabotage after analysing intelligence information, cyber monitoring and other sources. However, the force is always ready to prevent any kind of sabotage,’ said Intekhab, also the RAB spokesperson.

The force deployed intelligence personnel to detect fake currency rackets and installed counterfeit note detection machines at control rooms at major markets, he said, urging everyone to use this service.

‘Security arrangements have been made on roads, waterways and railways to ensure the safe journey of Eid holidaymakers. Control rooms and watchtowers will be set up at the bus and launch terminals and the railway stations to ensure safe travel for people heading home,’ Intekhab added.

It also strengthened surveillance and patrolling to prevent charging of excess fares, extortion and mugging, he said, adding that if any irregularities were found, legal action would be taken through mobile courts.

Intekhab also said that necessary arrangements, including mobile courts, would be made to prevent stalking and harassment of women who attend various events and visit important places during Eid holidays.

The RAB official urged women to inform on-duty RAB members if they face any kind of harassment.
